Periodontology
One of the main reasons for dental loss in adults is periodontal disease. This kind of disease is caused by bacterial infections that affect the surrounding tissue of the tooth (gum and supporting bone).
Periodontal diseases divide into two main groups: gingivitis (situation where there is only inflammation of the gum) and periodontitis (where periodontal tissues are affected and there is irreversible destruction of bone and ligaments that support the teeth, originating dental mobility).
The treatments
With the aim of solving the above mentioned problems, we have to make several appointments where we will diagnose the disease, and then perform rigorous cleaning of all plaque and tartar (calcified plaque).
In situations were the disease is more advanced, it might be necessary to perform small surgical interventions where we will expose the root of the affected teeth and execute a thorough cleaning.
