This area of Dental Medicine dedicates itself to diagnosing, preventing and treating dental problems in infants up until adolescent age.
Nowadays, with the modern techniques available, it is possible to offer dental care that can go through various phases: preventive care (including cleaning and fluoride application); advice on good oral health habits, early diagnosis and treatment of any changes in eruption and tooth placement, control gum disease, treatment of dental trauma situations; treatments associated with tooth decay.
Through regular monitoring of oral health, beginning with the appearance of the first teeth, the onset of diseases such as tooth decay or gingivitis can be prevented.
Likewise, with early diagnosis, it will be possible to guide and fix the growth of the teeth, thereby allowing a correct development of craniofacial structures.

“Mouth Patrol é o nome da série de desenhos animados que Federação Dentária Internacional (FDI) lançou recentemente para promover bons hábitos de saúde oral entre as crianças.
O protagonista dos vídeos é um pequeno castor chamado Toothie, que interage com as crianças e adultos. Até ao momento, estão disponíveis sete episódios apresentados no Dia Mundial da Saúde Oral 2018.
O projeto é da autoria do Comité de Saúde Pública da FDI, que tem como vice-presidente o médico dentista português Paulo Ribeiro de Melo, também presidente do Conselho Geral da Ordem dos Médicos Dentistas.
